Danilovskiy district was named after the ancient village Danilovskoye, where, accourding to some sources, in the 13th century knyaz Daniil Moscovskiy founded one of the first monasteries in Moscow.
The figure of the first knyaz of Moscow Daniil is pictured on the coat of arms of the Danilovskiy district. in celebration of 850th anniversary of Moscow a bronze full hight monument of the knyaz was installed in the public garden of Danilovskaya square.

Redevelopment of this area is a part of one of the biggest projects in “My Moscow” program (complex redevelopment of the Varshavskoye highway and fourteen streets and lanes which are its continuation till the garden ring road).
